Our Red Hat IT Platform Operations team is seeking a Senior System Administrator to join us in Pune, India. In this role, you will provide essential support for Red Hat's critical IT infrastructure, applications, and core services. You will ensure continuous and optimized operation and provisioning of IT systems, focusing on product and technology areas like bare metal, cloud and virtualized hosts, base operating system, e-mail, authentication and authorization, data storage, backup and recovery, and enterprise-level systems management and monitoring. You will respond to and resolve incidents and alerts, fulfill service and change request tickets, and assist in process improvement, documentation, and automation.
Primary job responsibilities:
Collaborate daily with globally distributed team members and other IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve incidents and service requests
Follow company policies and processes while completing technical tasks and implementing technical solutions
Participate in the 24x7 support model around deployment, maintenance, monitoring, response, and capacity planning for business-critical systems and infrastructure
Provide on-call coverage during working hours as part of a rotation, as well as periodic rostered weekend on-call support; travel occasionally to other Red Hat offices
Identify, document, and assist in the automation of procedures and processes
Advance innovation through use of Red Hat technologies that are new or still in the product development pipeline.
Required skills:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered
7+ years experience in Linux or UNIX system administration, supporting production systems and core utility services in a complex enterprise environment
3+ years experience supporting enterprise storage solutions, including NetApp
Understanding of and professional experience with multiple system administration areas, including operating system, virtualization, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), clusters, storage, monitoring, configuration systems management, high availability, backup, and recovery
Demonstrable experience leading projects and coordinating the efforts of those in a globally distributed team
Experience developing scripts and automating tasks with shell and scripting languages like Bash, Perl, and Python
Ability to work with minimal supervision and balance competing priorities like requests, production support incidents, change requests, scheduled maintenance, and project work
Positive approach with customers; ability to cooperate and communicate well within the global team
Familiarity with ITSM methodology, including incident and change management
Solid ethics and computer security practices (this position may include handing confidential company data)
Red Hat certifications, especially Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), are a plus
Contributions to open source community projects are a plus.
